The SMYLE youth group has returned from a seven day mission trip to the inner city of Worcester, MA. This was their sixth annual mission trip through Young Neighbors in Action. Their service included construction and repair work at a vocation house of studies, working at a thrift store, and working at a summer camp program for underprivileged children. The group included 19 youth and five chaperones. The SMYLE youth group thanks the parishioners for all their prayers and financial support.
On Sunday, June 1, Confirmation students and their families along with olm students and staff came together to assemble lentil stews for 6,000 people. These ziplock bagged meals were sent to local food pantries. Feeding Children Everywhere brought the food and did set-up and clean-up. Fifty volunteers provided the hands to combine the ingredients of the meals. Attendees ranged from ages 6-60! These meals were paid for by generous donations from our Freshman Confirmation students and parishioners totaling $1,500.
The purpose of a Simple Supper is to create a spiritual and social parish activity prior to gathering for the Stations of the Cross during the Lenten Season. Families with children are encouraged to attend. The typical offering is a meatless soup, salad, bread, coffee, tea or water.
This annual event is a fundraiser for Heifer International. This year we raised $400.
